What’s the oddest book you’ve ever read? Did you like it? Hate it? Did it make you think?
This is a HARD one (that's what she said:P)! But I do know that the author would be Haruki Murakami, a contemporary Japanese writer whose works is usually described as film noir with magical realism.
I suppose if I were to choose a book of his that I would considered the "oddest", it would be "The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle". When I started this, I have already read about 4 or 5 of his other works so I was well versed in his literary style and I was aware that this was his most popular as well- it had to be good!
At this time, I thought reading 600 pages of mind-bending surrealism would be somewhat daunting. But It quickly pulled me in and I couldn't put it down! So no, I didn't like it- I loved it!
I can't say that it made me "think"... I mean, I had to do a lot of thinking to make sure I was understanding what I was reading and when I thought I knew where the story would go, the rug was pulled from under me. Though I would like to revisit this book in the future and find things that I didn't see before.
